Chapter 18: The Advent of Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna
Text 1.18.28

तेषामपि महातेजा रामः सत्यपराक्रमः।
इष्टः सर्वस्य लोकस्य शशाङ्क इव निर्मलः॥

teṣām api mahā-tejā rāmaḥ satya-parākramaḥ
iṣṭaḥ
sarvasya lokasya śaśāṅka iva nirmalaḥ

teṣām api = among all; mahā-tejāḥ = was filled with great valor; rāmaḥ = Rāma; satya-parākramaḥ = and infallible prowess; iṣṭaḥ = [He became] the object of attention; sarvasya = for all; lokasya = persons; śaśāṅkaḥ = moon; iva = like; nirmalaḥ = the spotless.

Among all, Rāma was filled with great valor and infallible prowess. Like the spotless moon, [He became] the object of attention for all persons.

Sage Vālmīki now describes the unique characteristics of Lord Rāma before describing those of His brothers. Api indicates that even among other descendants of the Raghu dynasty, He was filled with great valor and infallible prowess.
