Chapter 18: The Advent of Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna

गतेषु पृथिवीशेषु राजा दशरथस्तदा।
प्रविवेश पुरीं श्रीमान्पुरस्कृत्य द्विजोत्तमान्॥
gateṣu pṛthivīśeṣu rājā daśarathas tadā
praviveśa purīṁ śrīmān puraskṛtya dvijottamān
gateṣu = when had departed; pṛthivī-īśeṣu = those kings; rājā = king; daśarathaḥ = Daśaratha; tadā praviveśa = entered; purīm = the city; śrīmān = the handsome; puraskṛtya = in front; dvija-uttamān = keeping the best of the twice-born.
When those kings had departed, the handsome King Daśaratha entered the city, keeping the best of the twice-born in front.
“The best of the twice-born” refers to Vasiṣṭha and others.
