इति हृदयसुखं निशम्य वाक्यं श्रुतिसुखमात्मवता विनीतमुक्तम्।
प्रथितगुणयशा गुणैर्विशिष्टः परमर्षिः परमं जगाम हर्षम्॥
iti hṛdaya-sukhaṁ niśamya vākyaṁ
śruti-sukham ātmavatā vinītam uktam
prathita-guṇa-yaśā guṇair viśiṣṭaḥ
parama-rṣiḥ paramaṁ jagāma harṣam
iti = these; hṛdaya-sukham = that brought happiness to the heart; niśamya = hearing; vākyam = words; śruti-sukham = and ears; ātmavatā = by the intelligent king; vinītam = humble; uktam = spoken; prathita-guṇa-yaśāḥ = famous for his abundant qualities; guṇaiḥ = by those qualities; viśiṣṭaḥ = and factually qualified; parama-rṣiḥ = the excellent sage; paramam = extremely; jagāma = became; harṣam = delighted.
Hearing these humble words spoken by the intelligent king that brought happiness to the heart and ears, the excellent sage famous for his abundant qualities and factually qualified by those qualities became extremely delighted.
Daśaratha’s words were pleasing to the sage’s heart because of the meaning of his statements, while they were pleasing to the sage’s ears because of the gentle words he had used.
