Chapter 19: Viśvāmitra Requests Daśaratha to Give Rāma
Text 1.19.15
यदि ते धर्मलाभं च यशश्च परमं भुवि।
स्थितमिच्छसि राजेन्द्र रामं मे दातुमर्हसि॥
yadi te dharma-lābhaṁ ca yaśaś ca paramaṁ bhuvi
sthitam icchasi rājendra rāmaṁ me dātum arhasi
yadi = if; te = your; dharma-lābham ca = to increase piety; yaśaḥ = fame; ca = as well as; paramam = supreme; bhuvi = on earth; sthitam = and enduring; icchasi = you desire; rāja-indra = O emperor; rāmam = Rāma; me = me; dātum arhasi = you should give.
O emperor, if you desire to increase your piety as well as supreme and enduring fame on earth, you should give me Rāma.
