इति हृदयमनोविदारणं मुनिवचनं तदतीव शुश्रुवान्।
नरपतिरभवन्महांस्तदा व्यथितमनाः विचचाल चासनात्॥
iti hṛdaya-mano-vidāraṇaṁ muni-vacanaṁ tad atīva śuśruvān
nara-patir abhavan mahāṁs tadā vyathita-manāḥ vicacāla cāsanāt
iti = thus; hṛdaya-manaḥ-vidāraṇam = that shattered his heart and mind; muni-vacanam = words of the sage; tat = those; atīva = extremely; śuśruvān = heard; nara-patiḥ = King Daśaratha; abhavan = was; mahān = though great by dynasty; tadā = then; vyathita-manāḥ = because his mind pained; vicacāla ca = he fainted [and fell] off; āsanāt = his throne.
King Daśaratha thus heard those words of the sage that shattered his heart and mind. Though great by dynasty, because his mind was extremely pained, he then fainted [and fell] off his throne.
