Chapter 19: Viśvāmitra Requests Daśaratha to Give Rāma
Text 1.19.9
शक्तो ह्येष मया गुप्तो दिव्येन स्वेन तेजसा।
राक्षसा ये विकर्तारस्तेषामपि विनाशने॥
śakto hy eṣa mayā gupto divyena svena tejasā
rākṣasā ye vikartāras teṣām api vināśane
śaktaḥ hi = is capable; eṣaḥ = He; mayā = by me; guptaḥ = protected; divyena = divine; svena = due to His; tejasā = prowess; rākṣasāḥ = rākṣasas; ye = who; vikartāraḥ = disturb us; teṣām api = all those; vināśane = of destroying.
Protected by me, due to His divine prowess, He is capable of destroying all those rākṣasas who disturb us.
But how can a mere child destroy those two rākṣasas? Anticipating this question, Viśvāmitra states this verse.
