Chapter 2: Lord Brahmā Instructs Vālmīki
Text 1.2.19

शिष्यस्तु तस्य ब्रुवतो मुनेर्वाक्यमनुत्तमम्।
प्रतिजग्राह संहृष्टस्तस्य तुष्टोऽभवद्गुरुः॥

śiṣyas tu tasya bruvato muner vākyam anuttamam
pratijagrāha saṁhṛṣṭas tasya tuṣṭo ’bhavad guruḥ

śiṣyaḥ tu = disciple; tasya = his; bruvataḥ = after uttered; muneḥ = sage; vākyam = verse; anuttamam = the superexcellent; pratijagrāha = memorized it; saṁhṛṣṭaḥ = delighted; tasya = with him; tuṣṭaḥ = happy; abhavat = became; guruḥ = the spiritual master [Vālmīki].

While the sage uttered the superexcellent verse (text 15), his delighted disciple memorized it. The spiritual master Vālmīki became happy with him.

The disciple Bharadvāja was delighted at the verse composed by the sage Vālmīki, text 15. It was anuttamam, superexcellent, for it was unrivalled in its summarization of the events pertaining to Lord Rāma. Śrī Vālmīki was happy with Bharadvāja for memorizing it.
