Chapter 20: Daśaratha Refuses to Give Rāma
Text 1.20.19
श्रूयते हि महावीर्यो रावणो राक्षसाधिपः।
साक्षाद्विश्रवणभ्राता पुत्रो विश्रवसो मुनेः॥
śrūyate hi mahā-vīryo rāvaṇo rākṣasādhipaḥ
sākṣād viśravaṇa-bhrātā putro viśravaso muneḥ
śrūyate hi = we hear that; mahā-vīryaḥ = of great prowess; rāvaṇaḥ = Rāvaṇa; rākṣasa-adhipaḥ = is the king of the rākṣasas; sākṣāt = he is a direct; viśravaṇa-bhrātā = brother of Viśravaṇa; putraḥ = and a son; viśravasaḥ = of Viśravā; muneḥ = Muni.
We hear that Rāvaṇa of great prowess is the king of the rākṣasas. He is a direct brother of Viśravaṇa and a son of Viśravā Muni.
Rāvaṇa is famous too.
