गृहाण वत्स सलिलं माभूत् कालविपर्ययः।
मन्त्रग्रामं गृहाण त्वं बलामतिबलां तथा॥
gṛhāṇa vatsa salilaṁ mābhūt kāla-viparyayaḥ
mantra-grāmaṁ gṛhāṇa tvaṁ balām atibalāṁ tathā
gṛhāṇa = accept; vatsa = dear child; salilam = this water [for ācamana]; mā bhūt = let there be no; kāla-viparyayaḥ = delay; mantra-grāmam = these mantra collections; gṛhāṇa tvam = accept [from me]; balām = balā; atibalām = atibalā; tathā = and.
Dear child, accept this water [for ācamana]. Let there be no delay. Accept [from me] these mantra collections: balā and atibalā.1
1 The Supreme Personality of Godhead does not need any mantras for enhancing His unlimited strength. But since He has assumed the mood of a human being in His pastimes, His devotees also behave accordingly to please Him. Human beings need such help from superhuman sources to perform acts deemed supernatural to them. Lord Rāma teaches this by example here and in several similar instances in the Rāmāyaṇa.
