Chapter 22: The Departure of Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa with Viśvāmitra
Text 1.22.24

दशरथनृपसूनुसत्तमाभ्यां तृणशयनेऽनुचिते तदोषिताभ्याम्।
कुशिकसुतवचोऽनुलालिताभ्यां सुखमिव सा विबभौ विभावरी च॥

daśaratha-nṛpa-sūnu-sattamābhyāṁ
tṛṇa-śayane ’nucite tadoṣitābhyām
kuśika-suta-vaco-’nulālitābhyāṁ

sukham iva vibabhau vibhāvarī ca

daśaratha-nṛpa-sūnu-sattamābhyām = to Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, the best of Daśaratha’s princes; tṛṇa-śayane = bed of grass; anucite = on an inappropriate; tadā uṣitābhyām = despite Their sleep; kuśika-suta-vacaḥ-anulālitābhyām = being entertained by the words of the son of Kuśika; sukham iva vibabhau = appeared pleasant; vibhāvarī ca = Their night.

To Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, the best of Daśaratha’s princes, despite Their sleep on an inappropriate bed of grass, being entertained by the words of the son of Kuśika, Their night appeared pleasant.
