Chapter 23: The History of Kāmāśrama
Text 1.23.19
अर्घ्यं पाद्यं तथातिथ्यं निवेद्य कुशिकात्मजे।
रामलक्ष्मणयोः पश्चादकुर्वन्नतिथिक्रियाम्॥
arghyaṁ pādyaṁ tathātithyaṁ nivedya kuśikātmaje
rāma-lakṣmaṇayoḥ paścād akurvann atithi-kriyām
arghyam = arghya; pādyam = water for washing feet; tathā = as well as; ātithyam = water for washing hands as well as eatables; nivedya = they offered; kuśika-ātmaje = to the son of Kuśika; rāma-lakṣmaṇayoḥ = Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa; paścāt = then; akurvan atithi-kriyām = they honored as guests.
They offered, in order, arghya and water for washing feet, as well as water for washing hands as well as eatables to the son of Kuśika. Then they honored Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa as guests.
Arghya refers to water for worship. Pādya refers to water for washing the feet.
