Chapter 28: Viśvāmitra Teaches Rāma to Withdraw Divine Weapons
Text 1.28.22
अनया त्ववगच्छामि देशस्य सुखवत्तया।
सर्वं मे शंस भगवन्कस्याश्रमपदं त्विदम्॥
anayā tv avagacchāmi deśasya sukhavattayā
sarvaṁ me śaṁsa bhagavan kasyāśrama-padaṁ tv idam
anayā tu avagacchāmi = I understand; deśasya sukhavattayā = what this place is because it is a place of happiness; sarvam me śaṁsa = please tell Me everything about it; bhagavan = O Lord; kasya āśrama-padam tu idam = whose āśrama is this.
I understand what this place is because it is a place of happiness. O Lord, please tell Me everything about it. Whose āśrama is this?
This verse means, “I understand that because this place is filled with happiness, it must be an āśrama. But I don’t know whose āśrama this is. Please tell Me everything about it, from its inception.”
