यज्ञं चकार मतिमानसुरेन्द्रो महाबलिः।
बलेस्तु यजमानस्य देवाः साग्निपुरोगमाः।
समागम्य स्वयं चैव विष्णुमूचुरिहाश्रमे॥
yajñaṁ cakāra matimān asurendro mahā-baliḥ
bales tu yajamānasya devāḥ sāgni-purogamāḥ
samāgamya svayaṁ caiva viṣṇum ūcur ihāśrame
yajñam = a yajña; cakāra = performed; matimān = the intelligent; asura-indraḥ = the Lord of the asuras; mahā-baliḥ = and great Bali; baleḥ tu yajamānasya = when Bali was performing that yajña; devāḥ = the devas; sa-agni-purogamāḥ = headed by Agni; samāgamya = came; svayam = personally; ca eva = and; viṣṇum = to Lord Viṣṇu; ūcuḥ = spoke as follows; iha = to this; aśrame = āśrama here.
The intelligent and great Bali, the Lord of the asuras, performed a yajña. When Bali was performing that yajña, the devas headed by Agni personally came to this āśrama here and spoke to Lord Viṣṇu as follows.
The devas spoke to Lord Viṣṇu here when He was performing austerities.
