Chapter 33: Kuśanābha’s Daughters marry Brahmadatta
Text 1.33.18

तस्याः प्रसन्नो ब्रह्मर्षिर्ददौ पुत्रमनुत्तमम्।
ब्रह्मदत्त इति ख्यातं मानसं चूलिनः सुतम्॥

tasyāḥ prasanno brahma-rṣir dadau putram anuttamam
brahmadatta
iti khyātaṁ mānasaṁ cūlinaḥ sutam

tasyāḥ prasannaḥ = pleased with her; brahma-ṛṣiḥ = brahmaṛṣi; dadau = gave her; putram anuttamam = an excellent son; brahmadattaḥ iti khyātam = known as Brahmadatta; mānasam = mental; cūlinaḥ sutam = this Brahmadatta was Cūlī’s son.

Pleased with her, Brahmarṣi Cūlī gave her an excellent son known as Brahmadatta. This Brahmadatta was Cūlī’s mental son.

The sage Cūlī gave her a son from his mind. The son was known as Brahmadatta, the one who was given by dint of spiritual austerities.
