Canto 1 - Boyhood
Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 34: Satyavatī, Viśvāmitra’s Elder Sister
Text 1.34.11

सा तु सत्यवती पुण्या सत्ये धर्मे प्रतिष्ठिता।
पतिव्रता महाभागा कौशिकी सरितां वरा॥

tu satyavatī puṇyā satye dharme pratiṣṭhitā
pati-vratā
mahā-bhāgā kauśikī saritāṁ varā

tu = and that; satyavatī = Satyavatī; puṇyā = is pious; satye = of truthfulness; dharme = in the dharma; pratiṣṭhitā = established; pati-vratā = chaste to her husband; mahā-bhāgā = greatly fortunate; kauśikīḥ = in the form of Kauśikī; saritām = of river; varā = the best.

And that Satyavatī is pious, established in the dharma of truthfulness, chaste to her husband, greatly fortunate and in the form of Kauśikī, the best of rivers.

This verse explains the reasons for Satyavatī’s name.1
