Chapter 36: Umā Curses the Demigods
Text 1.36.17
एवमुक्तास्ततो देवाः प्रत्यूचुर्वृषभध्वजम्।
यत्तेजः क्षुभितं ह्येतत्तद्धरा धारयिष्यति॥
evam uktās tato devāḥ pratyūcur vṛṣabhadhvajam
yat tejaḥ kṣubhitaṁ hy etat tad dharā dhārayiṣyati
evam uktāḥ = when addressed thus; tataḥ = thus; devāḥ pratyūcuḥ = the demigods replied; vṛṣabhadhvajam = to Lord Śiva; yat tejaḥ kṣubhitam hi etat = the remainder of your powerful semen; tad dharā = the earth; dhārayiṣyati = will bear.
When addressed thus, the demigods replied to Lord Śiva: The earth will bear the remainder of your powerful semen.
The presiding deity of earth had prayed to the demigods to be able to bear the powerful semen of Lord Śiva.
