Chapter 36: Umā Curses the Demigods
Text 1.36.25
अद्यप्रभृति युष्माकमप्रजाः सन्तु पत्नयः।
एवमुक्त्वा सुरान्सर्वाञ्शशाप पृथिवीमपि॥
adya-prabhṛti yuṣmākam aprajāḥ santu patnayaḥ
evam uktvā surān sarvāñ śaśāpa pṛthivīm api
adya-prabhṛti = from today; yuṣmākam = your; aprajāḥ santu = will not be able to give birth; patnayaḥ = wives; evam uktvā = having said that; surān sarvān = to all of the demigods; śaśāpa = she cursed; pṛthivīm = earth; api = also.
From today, your wives will not be able to give birth. Having said that to all of the demigods, she also cursed earth.
