Chapter 37: The History of Skanda
Text 1.37.26
ताः क्षीरं जातमात्रस्य कृत्वा समयमुत्तमम्।
ददुः पुत्रोऽयमस्माकं सर्वासामिति निश्चिताः॥
tāḥ kṣīraṁ jāta-mātrasya kṛtvā samayam uttamam
daduḥ putro’yam asmākaṁ sarvāsām iti niścitāḥ
tāḥ = the Kṛttikās; kṣīram = their milk; jāta-mātrasya = to the just born child; kṛtvā samayam uttamam = decided with firm conviction; daduḥ = and prepared to give; putraḥ ayam = this boy; asmākam sarvāsām iti niścitāḥ = will be a son to all of us.
The Kṛttikās decided with firm conviction, “This boy will be a son to all of us,” and prepared to give their milk to the just-born child.
