Chapter 37: The History of Skanda
Text 1.37.29
तेषां तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा स्कन्नं गर्भपरिस्रवे।
स्नापयन्परया लक्ष्म्या दीप्यमानं यथानलम्॥
skanda ity abruvan devāḥ skannaṁ garbha-parisravāt
kārtikeyaṁ mahā-bhāgaṁ kākutstha jvalanopamam
skandaḥ iti = Skanda; abruvan = called; devāḥ = the demigods; skannam garbha-parisravāt = because had fallen of the womb; kārtikeyam = Kārtikeya; mahā-bhāgam = who was filled with great opulence; kākutstha = Kakutstha; jvalana upamam = and who was equal to blazing fire.
O Kākutstha, the demigods called Kārtikeya of great opulence and equal to blazing fire Skanda.
Skanda means “one who has fallen off the womb.”
