Chapter 38: The History of Sagara
Text 1.38.14
षष्टिं पुत्रसहस्राणि सुपर्णभगिनी तदा।
महोत्साहान्कीर्तिमन्तो जग्राह सुमतिः सुतान्॥
ṣaṣṭiṁ putra-sahasrāṇi suparṇa-bhaginī tadā
mahotsāhān kīrtimanto jagrāha sumatiḥ sutān
ṣaṣṭim putra-sahasrāṇi = sixty thousand sons; suparṇa-bhaginī = Suparṇa’s sister; tadā = then; mahā-utsāhān = filled with great prowess; kīrtimantaḥ = and fame; jagrāha = accepted the benediction to have; sumatiḥ = Sumati; sutān = sons.
Suparṇa’s sister Sumati then accepted [the benediction to have] 60,000 sons filled with great prowess and fame.
Suparṇa is Garuḍa.
