Chapter 40: Lord Kapila Punishes Sagara’s Sons
Text 1.40.1
देवतानां वचः श्रुत्वा भगवान्वै पितामहः।
प्रत्युवाच सुसन्त्रस्तान्कृतान्तबलमोहितान्॥
devatānāṁ vacaḥ śrutvā bhagavān vai pitāmahaḥ
pratyuvāca susantrastān kṛtānta-bala-mohitān
devatānām = of the devas; vacaḥ = the words; śrutvā = after hearing; bhagavān vai = the powerful; pitāmahaḥ = Grandfather Brahmā; pratyuvāca = replied to them; susantrastān = they were extremely terrified; kṛtānta-bala-mohitān = and bewildered by the prowess of Sagara’s sons who had devastated [the creatures of the world].
After hearing the words of the devas, the powerful Grandfather Brahmā replied to them. They were extremely terrified and bewildered by the prowess of Sagara’s sons who had devastated [the creatures of the world].
