Chapter 40: Lord Kapila Punishes Sagara’s Sons
Text 1.40.13
खन्यमाने ततस्तस्मिन्ददृशुः पर्वतोपमम्।
दिशागजं विरूपाक्षं धारयन्तं महीतलम्॥
khanyamāne tatas tasmin dadṛśuḥ parvatopamam
diśā-gajaṁ virūpākṣaṁ dhārayantaṁ mahī-talam
khanyamāne tataḥ tasmin = while digging the earth; dadṛśuḥ = they saw; parvata-upamam = as large as a mountain; diśā-gajam = one of the elephant guarding a region of the earth; virūpākṣam = Virūpākṣa; dhārayantam = holding up; mahī-talam = the surface of the earth.
While digging the earth, they saw Virūpākṣa, one of the elephants guarding a region [of the earth], as large as a mountain, holding up the surface of the earth.
