Chapter 40: Lord Kapila Punishes Sagara’s Sons
Text 1.40.14
सपर्वतवनां कृत्स्नां पृथिवीं रघुनन्दन।
शिरसा धारयामास विरूपाक्षो महागजः॥
saparvata-vanāṁ kṛtsnāṁ pṛthivīṁ raghu-nandana
śirasā dhārayām āsa virūpākṣo mahā-gajaḥ
saparvata-vanām = along with its mountains and forests; kṛtsnām = the entire; pṛthivīm = earth; raghu-nandana = O beloved child of the Raghus; śirasā = on its head; dhārayām āsa = held; virūpākṣaḥ = Virūpākṣa; mahā-gajaḥ = the great elephant.
O beloved child of the Raghus, the great elephant Virūpākṣa held the entire earth along with its mountains and forests.
