Chapter 40: Lord Kapila Punishes Sagara’s Sons
Text 1.40.20

पश्चिमायामपि दिशि महान्तमचलोपमम्।
दिशागजं सौमनसं ददृशुस्ते महाबलाः॥

paścimāyām api diśi mahāntam acalopamam
diśā-gajaṁ
saumanasaṁ dadṛśus te mahā-balāḥ

paścimāyām api diśi = in the west also; mahāntam acala-upamam = as large as a mountain; diśā-gajam = an elephant guarding western region of the earth; saumanasam = Saumanasa; dadṛśuḥ = saw; te = those; mahā-balāḥ = greatly powerful princes.

Those greatly powerful princes saw Saumanasa, an elephant as large as a mountain, guarding the western region [of the earth].
