Chapter 42: Bhagīratha’s Austerities for Gaṅgā’s Descent
Text 1.42.10
इन्द्रलोकं गतो राजा स्वार्जितेनैव कर्मणा।
राज्ये भगीरथं पुत्रमभिषिच्य नरर्षभम्॥
indra-lokaṁ gato rājā svārjitenaiva karmaṇā
rājye bhagīrathaṁ putram abhiṣicya nara-rṣabham
indra-lokam = to Indra loka; gataḥ = then departed; rājā = the king; sva-ārjitena eva karmaṇā = by dint of his accumulated piety; rājye = to rule the kingdonw; bhagīratham = Bhagīratha; putram = his son; abhiṣicya = having enthroned; nara-rṣabham = the best of men.
Having enthroned his son Bhagīratha, the best of men, to rule the kingdom, the king then departed to Indraloka by dint of his accumulated piety.
