Chapter 42: Bhagīratha’s Austerities for Gaṅgā’s Descent
Text 1.42.22

उक्तवाक्यं तु राजानं सर्वलोकपितामहः।
प्रत्युवाच शुभां वाणीं मधुरां मधुराक्षराम्॥

ukta-vākyaṁ tu rājānaṁ sarva-loka-pitāmahaḥ
pratyuvāca
śubhāṁ vāṇīṁ madhurāṁ madhurākṣarām

ukta-vākyam tu = who had spoken thus; rājānam = to the king; sarva-loka-pitāmahaḥ = the grandfather of all the worlds; pratyuvāca = replied; śubhām = his words lead to auspiciousness; vāṇīm = with words; madhurām = were charming in meaning; madhura-akṣarām = containing sweet syllables.

To the king who had spoken thus, the grandfather of all the worlds replied with words containing sweet syllables. His words led to auspiciousness and were charming in meaning.
