Chapter 43: Gaṅgā Descends to the Earth
Text 1.43.7

तदा सातिमहद्रूपं कृत्वा वेगं च दुःसहम्।
आकाशादपतद्राम शिवे शिवशिरस्युत॥

tadā sātimahad rūpaṁ kṛtvā vegaṁ ca duḥsaham
ākāśād
apatad rāma śive śiva-śirasy uta

tadā = Gaṅgā; atimahat = a very great; rūpam = form; kṛtvā = assuming; vegam = speed; ca = and; duḥsaham = intolerable; ākāśāt = from the skies; apatat = fell; rāma = O Rāma; śive = pure; śiva-śirasi uta =on the head of Lord Śiva.

O Rāma, assuming a very great form and intolerable speed, Gaṅgā fell from the skies on the pure head of Lord Śiva.

Uta indicates that Lord Śiva’s head is famous for being pure.
