Chapter 44: Bhagīratha Delivers his Uncles

पूर्वकेण हि ते राजंस्तेनातियशसा तदा।
धर्मिणां प्रवरेणापि नैष प्राप्तो मनोरथः॥
pūrvakeṇa hi te rājaṁs tenātiyaśasā tadā
dharmiṇāṁ pravareṇāpi naiṣa prāpto manorathaḥ
pūrvakeṇa hi = predecessor, Sagara; te = your; rājan = O king; tena atiyaśasā tadā = he was extremely famous; dharmiṇām = of those dedicated to dharma; pravareṇa = and the best; api = even; na = not; eṣaḥ = this; prāptaḥ = could fulfill; manorathaḥ = cherished desire.
O king, even your predecessor, Sagara, could not fulfill this cherished desire. He was extremely famous and the best of those dedicated to dharma.
