Canto 1 - Boyhood
Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 45: The Churning of the Milk Ocean
Text 1.45.16

ततस्तेषां नरश्रेष्ठ बुद्धिरासीन्महात्मनाम्।
अमरा अजराश्चैव कथं स्याम निरामयाः॥

tatas teṣāṁ nara-śreṣṭha buddhir āsīn mahātmanām
amarā
ajarāś caiva kathaṁ syāma nirāmayāḥ

tataḥ = after they were born; teṣām = those; nara-śreṣṭha = O best of men; buddhiḥ āsīt = began to consider; mahā-ātmanām = greatly intelligent devas and asuras; amarāḥ = free from death; ajarāḥ = old age; ca eva = and; katham = how; syāma = can we become; nirāmayāḥ = disease.

O best of men, after they were born, those greatly intelligent devas and asuras began to consider: How can we become free from death, old age and disease?1

1 These asuras are not the demoniac described in Chapter 16 of Bhagavad-gītā. This is noted by Śrīla Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa in his commentary therein. These asuras accept Vedic authority and accept the Supreme in the form of Time.
