Chapter 45: The Churning of the Milk Ocean
Text 1.45.17
तेषां चिन्तयतां राम बुद्धिरासीन्महात्मनाम्।
क्षीरोदमथनं कृत्वा रसं प्राप्स्याम तत्र वै॥
teṣāṁ cintayatāṁ rāma buddhir āsīn mahātmanām
kṣīroda-mathanaṁ kṛtvā rasaṁ prāpsyāma tatra vai
teṣām = those; cintayatām = when thus contemplating; rāma = O Rāma; buddhiḥ āsīt = they concluded; mahā-ātmanām = greatly intelligent devas and asuras were; kṣīra-uda-mathanam kṛtvā = we will churn the milk ocean and; rasam = amṛta (nectar); prāpsyāma tatra vai = get.
O Rāma, when those greatly intelligent devas and asuras were thus contemplating, they concluded, “We will churn the milk ocean and get amṛta (nectar).”
