Chapter 45: The Churning of the Milk Ocean
Text 1.45.19
अथ वर्षसहस्रेण योक्त्रसर्पशिरांसि च।
वमन्त्यति विषं तत्र ददंशुर्दशनैः शिलाः॥
atha varṣa-sahasreṇa yoktra-sarpa-śirāṁsi ca
vamanty ati viṣaṁ tatra dadaṁśur daśanaiḥ śilāḥ
atha varṣa-sahasreṇa = for a thousand years; yoktra-sarpa-śirāṁsi ca = the mouths of the serpent their churning rope; vamanti = vomited; ativiṣam = a terrible poison; tatra = in its mouths; dadaṁśuḥ = the serpent bit; daśanaiḥ = with its teeth; śilāḥ = stones.
For a thousand years, the mouths of the serpent, their churning rope, vomited a terrible poison. With its teeth, the serpent bit stones in its mouths.
