Chapter 45: The Churning of the Milk Ocean
Text 1.45.18
ततो निश्चित्य मथनं योक्त्रं कृत्वा च वासुकिम्।
मन्थानं मन्दरं कृत्वा ममन्थुरमितौजसः॥
tato niścitya mathanaṁ yoktraṁ kṛtvā ca vāsukim
manthānaṁ mandaraṁ kṛtvā mamanthur amitaujasaḥ
tataḥ niścitya mathanam = having concluded that they will churn the milk ocean; yoktram kṛtvā ca vāsukim = made Vāsuki the rope for churning; manthānam mandaram kṛtvā = Mandara the churning rod; mamanthuḥ = and took part in the churning and; amitaujasaḥ = the devas and asuras of limitless energy.
Having concluded that they will churn the milk ocean, the devas and asuras of limitless energy made Vāsuki the rope for churning and Mandara the churning rod, and took part in the churning.
