Chapter 45: The Churning of the Milk Ocean
Text 1.45.24
अग्रपूजामिमां मत्वा गृहाणेदं विषं प्रभो।
इत्युक्त्वा च सुरश्रेष्ठस्तत्रैवान्तरधीयत॥
agra-pūjām imāṁ matvā gṛhāṇedaṁ viṣaṁ prabho
ity uktvā ca sura-śreṣṭhas tatraivāntaradhīyata
agra-pūjām = as the first worship [in a sacred event]; imām = this; matvā = considering; gṛhāṇa = accept; idam = this; viṣam = poison; prabho = O Lord; iti uktvā ca = saying this; sura-śreṣṭhaḥ = the best of the worshipable deities; tatra eva = at that very spot; antaradhīyata = disappeared.
Considering this as the first worship [in a sacred event], accept this poison, O Lord.1 Saying this, the best of the worshipable deities disappeared at that very spot.
1 Agra-pūjā is a technical expression.
