Chapter 45: The Churning of the Milk Ocean
Text 1.45.42-45

ततो दीर्घेण कालेन चोत्पन्ना कमलालया।
अतीवरूपसम्पन्ना प्रथमे वयसि स्थिता॥

सर्वाभरणपूर्णाङ्गी सर्वलक्षणलक्षिता।
मकुटाङ्गदचित्राङ्गी नीलकुञ्चितमूर्धजा॥

तप्तहाटकसङ्काशा मुक्ताभरणभूषिता।
चतुर्भुजा महादेवी पद्महस्ता वरानना॥

सा च देवी तथोत्पन्ना पद्मा श्रीर्लोकपूजिता।
सा पद्मा पद्मनाभस्य ययौ वक्षःस्थलं हरेः॥

tato dīrgheṇa kālena cotpannā kamalālayā
atīva-rūpa-sampannā
prathame vayasi sthitā

sarvābharaṇa-pūrṇāṅgī sarva-lakṣaṇa-lakṣitā
makuṭāṅgada-citrāṅgī
nīla-kuñcita-mūrdhajā

tapta-hāṭaka-saṅkāśā muktābharaṇa-bhūṣitā
catur-bhujā
mahā-devī padma-hastā varānanā

ca devī tathotpannā padmā śrīr loka-pūjitā
padmā padmanābhasya yayau vakṣaḥ-sthalaṁ hareḥ

tataḥ = then; dīrgheṇa kālena ca = after a long time; utpannā = Śrī-devī appeared [from the churning]; kamala-ālayā = she was sitting on a lotus; atīva-rūpa-sampannā = she was endowed with extreme beauty; prathame vayasi sthitā = always in the first phase [of youth]; sarva-ābharaṇa-pūrṇa-aṅgī = Her body completely bedecked with jewels; sarva-lakṣaṇa-lakṣitā = she was characterized with all auspicious symptoms; makuṭa-aṅgada-citrāṅgī = she wore a crown and bracelets; nīla-kuñcita-mūrdhajā = Her curly hair was dark blue and her body was smeared with vermillion; tapta-hāṭaka-saṅkāśā = she was radiant like molten gold; mukta-ābharaṇa-bhūṣitā = and decorated with pearl ornaments; catur-bhujā = had four arms; mahā-devī = that great goddess; padma-hastā varānanā = a lotus in her hand and her face was beautiful; ca devī = that goddess; tathā utpannā = who had appeared thus; padmā = as Padmā; śrīḥ = Śrī; loka-pūjitā = was worshipped by the world; padmā = that Padmā; padmanābhasya = also known as Padmanābha; yayau = went; vakṣaḥ-sthalam = to the chest; hareḥ = of Lord Hari.

Then, after a long time, Śrī-devī appeared [from the churning]. She was sitting on a lotus. She was endowed with extreme beauty, always in the first phase [of youth]. Her body completely bedecked with jewels, she was characterized with all auspicious symptoms. She wore a crown and bracelets and her body was smeared with vermillion. Her curly hair was dark blue. She was radiant like molten gold and decorated with pearl ornaments. That great goddess had four arms, a lotus in her hand and her face was beautiful. That goddess who had appeared thus was worshipped by the world as Padmā. That Padmā went to the chest of Lord Hari also known as Padmanābha.
