Chapter 46: Diti’s vow to kill Indra
Text 1.46.1

हतेषु तेषु पुत्रेषु दितिः परमदुःखिता।
मारीचं कश्यपं राम भर्तारमिदमब्रवीत्॥

hateṣu teṣu putreṣu ditiḥ parama-duḥkhitā
mārīcaṁ
kaśyapaṁ rāma bhartāram idam abravīt

hateṣu = were killed; teṣu = when her; putreṣu = sons; ditiḥ = Diti; parama-duḥkhitā = became extremely distressed; mārīcam = the son of Marīci; kaśyapam = Kaśyapa; rāma = O Rāma; bhartāram = to her husband; idam abravīt = she spoke as follows.

O Rāma, when her sons were killed, Diti became extremely distressed. She spoke as follows to her husband Kaśyapa, the son of Marīci.

In this chapter, the sage Viśvāmitra points out that even a great endeavor to oppose those who have taken shelter of Lord Viṣṇu will fail.
