Chapter 46: Diti’s vow to kill Indra

मा रुदो मा रुदश्चेति गर्भं शक्रोऽभ्यभाषत।
बिभेद च महातेजा रुदन्तमपि वासवः॥
mā rudo mā rudaś ceti garbhaṁ śakro ’bhyabhāṣata
bibheda ca mahā-tejā rudantam api vāsavaḥ
mā rudaḥ mā rudaḥ ca iti = “don’t cry! don’t cry”; garbham = the embryo; śakraḥ = Indra; abhyabhāṣata = told; bibheda ca = cut up; mahā-tejāḥ = being filled with great prowess; rudantam = the crying embryo; api = still; vāsavaḥ = he.
Indra told the embryo, “Don’t cry! Don’t cry!” Still, being filled with great prowess, he cut up the crying embryo.
