Chapter 46: Diti’s vow to kill Indra
Text 1.46.23
तदन्तरमहं लब्ध्वा शक्रहन्तारमाहवे।
अभिदं सप्तधा देवि तन्मे त्वं क्षन्तुमर्हसि॥
tad antaram ahaṁ labdhvā śakra-hantāram āhave
abhidaṁ saptadhā devi tan me tvaṁ kṣantum arhasi
tat antaram aham labdhvā = having thus obtained an opportunity; śakra-hantāram = the one who would have been a killer of Indra; āhave = in battle; abhidam = I have cut; saptadhā = into seven; devi = O goddess; tat = therefore; me = me; tvam = you; kṣantum arhasi = should forgive.
Having thus obtained an opportunity, I have cut the one who would have been a killer of Indra in battle into seven. O goddess, therefore, you should forgive me.
