Chapter 47: King Sumati Approaches Viśvāmitra
Text 1.47.7
तस्यास्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा सहस्राक्षः पुरन्दरः।
उवाच प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यं दितिं बलनिषूदनः॥
tasyās tad vacanaṁ śrutvā sahasrākṣaḥ purandaraḥ
uvāca prāñjalir vākyaṁ ditiṁ bala-niṣūdanaḥ
tasyāḥ tat vacanam śrutvā = upon hearing her words; sahasra-akṣaḥ = the thousand-eyed; purandaraḥ = Purandara; uvāca = spoke; prāñjaliḥ = joined his palms in supplication and; vākyam = the following words; ditim = to Diti; bala-niṣūdanaḥ = who destroys strength.
Upon hearing her words, the thousand-eyed Purandara who destroys strength joined his palms in supplication and spoke the following words to Diti.
Indra has been justifiably described in this verse [as one who destroys strength] for he had cut Diti’s embryo.
