Chapter 48: Gautama Curses Ahalyā
Text 1.48.18

कदाचित्दिवसे राम ततो दूरं गते मुनौ।
तस्यान्तरं विदित्वा तु सहस्राक्षः शचीपतिः।
मुनिवेषधरोऽहल्यामिदं वचनमब्रवीत्॥

kadācit divase rāma tato dūraṁ gate munau
tasyāntaraṁ
viditvā tu sahasrākṣaḥ śacī-patiḥ
muni-veṣadharo
’halyām idaṁ vacanam abravīt

kadācit divase = one day; rāma = O Rāma; tataḥ = from his āśrama; dūram = far away; gate = when had gone; munau = the sage; tasya antaram viditvā tu = came to know that the sage was not at his āśrama at that time; sahasrākṣaḥ = the thousand-eyed; śacī-patiḥ = husband of Śacī Indra; muni-veṣadharaḥ = disguising himself as that sage; ahalyām = to Ahalyā; idam vacanam = these words; abravīt = he spoke.

O Rāma, one day, when the sage had gone far away from his āśrama, the thousand-eyed husband of Śacī, Indra, came to know that the sage was not at his āśrama at that time. Disguising himself as that sage, he spoke these words to Ahalyā.
