Text 1.49.20

पाद्यमर्घ्यं तथातिथ्यं चकार सुसमाहिता।
प्रतिजग्राह काकुत्स्थो विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा॥

pādyam arghyaṁ tathātithyaṁ cakāra susamāhitā
pratijagrāha
kākutstho vidhi-dṛṣṭena karmaṇā

pādyam = she gave Them water for washing Their feet; arghyam = arghya offering; tathā ātithyam cakāra = and hosted Them as her guests; su-samāhitā = with a very composed mind; pratijagrāha = accepted the honor given to Him; kākutsthaḥ = the descendant of Kakutstha; vidhi-dṛṣṭena karmaṇā = in accordance with the scriptural regulations.

With a very composed mind, she gave Them water for washing Their feet, arghya offering and hosted Them as her guests. The descendant of Kakutstha accepted the honor given to Him in accordance with the scriptural regulations.

NOTE. It is understood that Ahalyā was purified of all her sinful contamination by now and was thus able to serve Lord Rāma with determination. In this regard, Śrīla Prabhupāda writes, “As explained in the twenty-eighth verse of the Seventh Chapter [of Bhagavad-gītā], a person who has completely ended the reactions of all sinful activities and who is fully engaged in pious activities, being freed from the duality of this material world, becomes engaged in devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa.” (Bhagavad-gītā 9.2 purport)
