Chapter 55: King Viśvāmitra Obtains Divine Weapons
Text 1.55.10
हतपुत्रबलो दीनो लूनपक्ष इव द्विजः।
हतदर्पो हतोत्साहो निर्वेदं समपद्यत॥
hata-putra-balo dīno lūna-pakṣa iva dvijaḥ
hata-darpo hatotsāho nirvedaṁ samapadyata
hata-putra-balaḥ = deprived of his sons and army; dīnaḥ = and [hence] wretched; lūna-pakṣaḥ iva dvijaḥ = he appeared like a bird without its wings; hata-darpaḥ = having lost his pride; hata-utsāhaḥ = and perseverence; nirvedam samapadyata = he became distressed.
Deprived of his sons and army, and [hence] wretched, he appeared like a bird without its wings. Having lost his pride and perseverance, he became distressed.
