Chapter 55: King Viśvāmitra Obtains Divine Weapons
Text 1.55.23
वसिष्ठस्य च ये शिष्यास्तथैव मृगपक्षिणः।
विद्रवन्ति भयाद्भीता नानादिग्भ्यः सहस्रशः॥
vasiṣṭhasya ca ye śiṣyās tathaiva mṛga-pakṣiṇaḥ
vidravanti bhayād bhītā nānādigbhyaḥ sahasraśaḥ
vasiṣṭhasya ca = Vasiṣṭha’s; ye śiṣyāḥ = disciples; tathā eva = as well as; mṛga-pakṣiṇaḥ = the animals and birds inhabiting there; vidravanti = fled; bhayāt = because of the fearsome weapons; bhītāḥ = frightened; nānādigbhyaḥ = from their respective residences to various directions; sahasraśaḥ = by thousands.
Vasiṣṭha’s disciples as well as the animals and birds inhabiting there, frightened because of the fearsome weapons, fled from their respective residences to various directions by thousands.
