Chapter 56: King Viśvāmitra Decides to Become a Brāhmaṇa
Text 1.56.22

एवमुक्तो महातेजाः शमं चक्रे महातपाः।
विश्वामित्रोऽपि निकृतो विनिश्वस्येदमब्रवीत्॥

evam ukto mahā-tejāḥ śamaṁ cakre mahā-tapāḥ
viśvāmitro
’pi nikṛto viniśvasyedam abravīt

evam uktaḥ = thus addressed; mahā-tejāḥ = Vasiṣṭha of great prowess; śamam cakre = became pacified of his anger; mahā-tapāḥ = and austerity; viśvāmitraḥ = Viśvāmitra; api = also; nikṛtaḥ = having been hurt and chastised [thus]; viniśvasya = sighed deeply and; idam = as follows; abravīt = spoke [to himself].

Thus addressed, Vasiṣṭha of great prowess and austerity became pacified of his anger. Having been hurt and chastised [thus], Viśvāmitra also sighed deeply and spoke [to himself] as follows.
