Chapter 57: King Triśaṅku’s Desire
Text 1.57.20
इक्ष्वाकूणां हि सर्वेषां पुरोधाः परमा गतिः।
पुरोधसस्तु विद्वांसस्तारयन्ति सदा नृपान्॥
ikṣvākūṇāṁ hi sarveṣāṁ purodhāḥ paramā gatiḥ
purodhasas tu vidvāṁsas tārayanti sadā nṛpān
ikṣvākūṇām hi sarveṣām = for all the descendants of Ikṣvāku; purodhāḥ = their priest Vasiṣṭha; paramā gatiḥ = has been the ultimate way [to fulfill their desires]; purodhasaḥ tu vidvāṁsaḥ = the learned priests; tārayanti = deliver; sadā = always; nṛpān = men [submissive to them].
For all the descendants of Ikṣvāku, their priest Vasiṣṭha has been the ultimate way [to fulfill their desires]. The learned priests always deliver men [submissive to them].
