एवं निश्चित्य मनसा भूय एव महातपाः।
कोपेन महताविष्टस्त्रैलोक्यं व्यथयन्निव।
तपश्चचार काकुत्स्थ परमं परमात्मवान्॥
evaṁ niścitya manasā bhūya eva mahā-tapāḥ
kopena mahatāviṣṭas trailokyaṁ vyathayann iva
tapaś cacāra kākutstha paramaṁ paramātmavān
evam niścitya manasā = having ascertained thus in his mind; bhūyaḥ eva = again; mahā-tapāḥ = Viśvāmitra of great austerity; kopena mahatā āviṣṭaḥ = became overcome with great anger and; trailokyam = the three worlds; vyathayan iva = as if tormenting; tapaḥ cacāra = performed penance; kākutstha = O descendant of Kakutstha; paramam = extreme; parama-ātmavān = with great endeavor.
O descendant of Kakutstha, having ascertained thus in his mind, Viśvāmitra of great austerity became overcome with great anger and again performed extreme penance with great endeavor, as if tormenting the three worlds.
Viśvāmitra performed extreme penance [this time], that is, austerities more austere than the austerities he had performed earlier.
