Chapter 58: King Triśaṅku Cursed
Text 1.58.26
नान्यां गतिं गमिष्यामि नान्यः शरणमस्ति मे।
दैवं पुरुषकारेण निवर्तयितुमर्हसि॥
nānyāṁ gatiṁ gamiṣyāmi nānyaḥ śaraṇam asti me
daivaṁ puruṣakāreṇa nivartayitum arhasi
na anyām gatim gamiṣyāmi = I will not go to any other shelter; na anyaḥ śaraṇam asti me =[for] I do not have any other shelter; daivam = my destiny; puruṣakāreṇa = through some agency; nivartayitum arhasi = you should avert.
I will not go to any other shelter, [for] I do not have any other shelter. You should avert my destiny through some agency.
If Vasiṣṭha summons for Triśaṅku, what would Triśaṅku do? Anticipating this question, he states that he has no shelter other than Viśvāmitra. Viśvāmitra should mercifully make destiny favorable to Triśaṅku.
