Chapter 58: King Triśaṅku Cursed
Text 1.58.8
प्रत्याख्यातोऽस्मि गुरुणा गुरुपुत्रैस्तथैव च।
अन्यां गतिं गमिष्यामि स्वस्ति वोऽस्तु तपोधनाः॥
pratyākhyāto ’smi guruṇā guru-putrais tathaiva ca
anyāṁ gatiṁ gamiṣyāmi svasti vo ‘stu tapo-dhanāḥ
pratyākhyātaḥ asmi = I have been rejected; guruṇā = by my guru; guru-putraiḥ tathā eva ca = and the sons of my guru; anyām gatim gamiṣyāmi = [so] I will search for another way [to fulfill my desire]; svasti vaḥ astu = may there be auspiciousness unto you; tapaḥ-dhanāḥ = O ones rich in austerities.
I have been rejected by my guru and the sons of my guru. [So] I will search for another way [to fulfill my desire]. O ones rich in austerities, may there be auspiciousness unto you.
Triśaṅku wanted to search for another way, that is, another sacrificial priest [who could conduct his desired sacrifice].
