Chapter 6: The Residents of Ayodhyā
Text 1.6.20
सा तेनेक्ष्वाकुनाथेन पुरी सुपरिरक्षिता।
यथा पुरस्तान्मनुना मानवेन्द्रेण धीमता॥
sā tenekṣvāku-nāthena purī suparirakṣitā
yathā purastān manunā mānavendreṇa dhīmatā
sā = that; tena = by the; ikṣvāku-nāthena = master of the descendants of Ikṣvāku; purī = city; suparirakṣitā = was very well protected; yathā = just as; purastāt = in the past; manunā = Manu; mānava-indreṇa = the Lord of mankind; dhīmatā = it was by the intelligent.
That city was very well protected by the master of the descendants of Ikṣvāku just as it was by the intelligent Manu, the Lord of mankind in the past.
