Chapter 62: Śunaḥśepa Saved
Text 1.62.17
श्वमांसभोजिनः सर्वे वासिष्ठा इव जातिषु।
पूर्णं वर्षसहस्रं तु पृथिव्यामनुवत्स्यथ॥
śva-māṁsa-bhojinaḥ sarve vāsiṣṭhā iva jātiṣu
pūrṇaṁ varṣa-sahasraṁ tu pṛthivyām anuvatsyatha
śva-māṁsa-bhojinaḥ sarve = all of you as muṣṭikas eating the flesh of dogs; vāsiṣṭhāḥ iva jātiṣu = like the sons of Vasiṣṭha; pūrṇam varṣa-sahasram tu = for a thousand years in full; pṛthivyām = on earth; anuvatsyatha = therefore, may live.
Therefore, may all of you live on earth for a thousand years in full as muṣṭikas eating the flesh of dogs, like the sons of Vasiṣṭha.1
1. He was not partial to his sons. Since they were as wrong as the sons of Vasiṣṭha, they were punished to the same extent.
