Chapter 63: Viśvāmitra Falls Prey to Lust
Text 1.63.3

तमेवमुक्त्वा देवेशस्त्रिदिवं पुनरभ्यगात्।
विश्वामित्रो महातेजा भूयस्तेपे महत्तपः॥

tam evam uktvā deveśas tridivaṁ punar abhyagāt
viśvāmitro
mahā-tejā bhūyas tepe mahat tapaḥ

tam = to him; evam = thus; uktvā = having spoken; deva-iśaḥ = the Lord of the devas; tridivam = to the heavens; punaḥ abhyagāt = returned; viśvāmitraḥ = Viśvāmitra; mahā-tejā = of great prowess; bhūyaḥ = again; tepe mahat tapaḥ = engaged in severe austerities.

Having spoken to him thus, the Lord of the devas returned to the heavens. Viśvāmitra of great prowess again engaged in severe austerities.

The first syllable of the second line here is the third syllable of the gāyatrī-mantra.

Viśvāmitra was not in control of his senses. In order to point this out, Śatānanda relates the following history.
